Introduction |
|
The Optical Communication Research Group is one of the core research groups in the Center for Advanced Studies in Telecommunications (CAST). The primary research interest of the group is in the area of Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Networks. The group carries out research to propose and present novel architectures and protocols for optical metro and access networks. |

Product / Research Overview |
|
The Optical Communication Research Group aims to design and develop First-Mile
Optical Broadband Network (FOTON). It is a secure, scalable and cost-efficient WDM – PON Network
that provides a ubiquitous converged fiber infrastructure for residential, business and wireless
backhaul services with virtually seamless upgrade capacity using industry standard Ethernet as the physical
layer. Our approach guarantees symmetric bandwidth up to 100 Mb/s per user with a reach of more than 40km. The FOTON project roadmap is shown in Figure 1. The design verification and performance
analysis of FOTON is carried out through extensive simulations in Optsim™.
