The Centre for Advanced Studies and Telecommunication (CAST) of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) will house the centennial chapter of Mobile Monday Global (MoMo). The chapter was launched during a formal ceremony held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 19, 2010. Based in Helsinki, Finland, MoMo is an open networking organization for mobile industry professionals that aim at fostering cooperation and cross-border business development through virtual and live networking events to share ideas, best practices and trends from global markets. CAST will soon be responsible for launching and maintaining the website of this chapter of MoMo. The Pakistan Chapter of MoMo will bring together the leading companies and personalities related to the Pakistani telecommunication business, enabling them to: join the global family of MoMo; exchange ideas; find resources; and, most importantly, to participate in the development of the mobile industry and mobile eco-system in Pakistan.

The event was attended by over 200 guests from diplomatic community, educational and telecommunication sectors, and I.T industries in Pakistan, including the Minister for Science and Technology, and Minister for Education, Government of Pakistan. The Executive Director COMSATS distributed commemorative shields to the sponsors of the event and the panelists of the open-discussion session.

Mr. Wille Eerola, CEO Riddes Corporation inaugurated Best Mobile Innovation in Pakistan (BMIP) Award Program. The Best Mobile Innovation Pakistan (BMIP) Award is an annual competition to promote innovations, new entrepreneurship as well as increased implementation of wireless related technology in Pakistan and in the world.
Mr. Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Federal Minister for Science and Technology and Chancellor CIIT awarded CIIT Medals for Innovation (CIMI) to following CAST faculty members: 

  • Mr. Imran Ali (Lecturer, CAST) 
  • Mr. Syed Abdul Mannan Kirmani (Lecturer, CAST) CIIT Medals for Innovation (CIMI) Certificate of Merit and cash prizes are awarded to the researchers from all campuses of CIIT for their innovative contribution to the research and development.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) and British Council jointly initiated the Higher Education Partnerships Programme between Pakistan and United Kingdom to support and strengthen the national reforms process in higher education sector of Pakistan. Through this initiative CAST, CIIT established a research and development link with University of Essex UK. This link successfully operated till December 2009 and helped us in carrying out joint research and capacity building of our faculty members. More...

MobileMonday has announced that it will launch its 100th chapter in Islamabad, Pakistan. MoMo will also open chapters in Palestine and Sri Lanka.

A workshop on WiMAX titled ‘One day beginner level workshop on WiMAX’ was held in the Simulation and Modeling lab, Center for Advanced studies in Telecommunication (CAST), COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. The workshop was a part of series of technical courses and workshops developed by CAST for the relevant professionals in the industry and researchers in the academia.
